Best Cleansers for Clarisonic - Buyers Guide

Can you use any cleanser with Clarisonic?

Thankfully, most cleansers will work well with a Clarisonic brush. You’re not really limited in many ways as far as options are concerned. One limitation is that you can’t really use a clarisonic brush along with an abrasive scrub, as this can cause your skin to tear and get damaged.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you need to decide how often to use the brush. They’re usually quite gentle and so they can be used twice a day, but you don’t always need to use it that much. You could just use it at night, or use it twice a week. Which brings us onto our next point...

Tips for Using a Clarisonic Brush

There are a few things to keep in mind with using your clarisonic brush. If you’ve never used one before, it can probably be a little bit nerve wracking, just in case you do it wrong. It’s actually pretty straightforward to use, but you should try to ensure that you’re using it correctly.

First off, as we’ve previously said, don’t over or under use the brush. Always do what works for you, if yoo much use is bad for you, use it less, and vice versa. The brush should work along with the skin to ensure that you’re removing any dirt and oil from your pores. If your skin is a little more sensitive then use a softer brush head, or maybe just use it a little less. If the brush isn’t working well for you, then the chances are that it’s because you haven’t got the right one for you.

Talking to a professional retailer or dermatologist before use can come in handy here. You should also try to replace the brush heads every 3 months or so as the bristles can get tired and worn out, and this decreases their efficacy.

Also, you don’t need to press very hard on the skin when using the brush. Doing so will block the oscillation motion, and this can stop the brush from working properly and being able to work its magic.

Try to ensure that you regularly clean the brush, at least once a week. You can do this by removing the brush head and then washing the handle using soapy warm water so you can remove any buildup of residue in the brush. Rinse and rub the brush head also with warm and soapy water too.

You don’t need to remove your makeup before using the clarisonic, as they can also help to remove makeup. And obviously, as the final point and the reason you’re reading this article, it is absolutely vital to ensure that you use the right cleanser!

What to look for in a cleanser for clarisonic

A clarisonic brush is designed to essentially exfoliate the skin and smooth away any dead skin so that you can absorb the goodness of your serum and moisturizer properly. So, in that case, it’s best to use a liquid facial cleanser that doesn’t contain any beads or scrubs. Try to stay clear of any glycolic acid as this is designed to exfoliate already. You should try to avoid over-exfoliating.

You should also try to look for a cleanser that fits with your complexion too, as what may work for someone with dry skin may not work for oily skin, and so on.

Here’s what to look out for in a cleanser for each skin type:

Oily

If you have oily skin, it’s best to try and use a gel cleanser.  You can tell if you have an oily complexion by doing a blot test. You may be a bit more acne prone if you have oily skin, and your skin may have more of a sheen to it.

Dry

If your skin is dry, you could be better off using a milk cleanser or mousse. This is especially the case if your skin leans towards dryness, dehydration, flaking and dullness. You need a cleanser that is nourishing and helps the skin to maintain healthy levels of hydration. If you have dry skin, you will know as your skin may be more prone to redness, and it may feel tight and dry. You may also have issues with more flaking skin.

Normal Skin

Make sure the brush head you get is a Clarisonic Normal brush head. Normal skin isn’t super susceptible to problems, and it doesn’t often get breakouts or dry skin. No excessive signs of oil or dryness in general.

Combination Skin

Combination skin will require the Clarisonic sensitive brush head, where the more delicate bristles work best for the dehydrated areas and they can get rid of any impurities from the more greasy areas. As you may expect, combination skin consists of some areas, such as the T-zone, being oily, whereas others like the cheeks have the characteristics of dry skin instead. Usually with this skin type mixing different products may be helpful, such as a gel cleanser for the more oily areas and a cream cleanser for the more dry areas.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is more susceptible to skin problems such as dermatitis and doesn’t always respond well to a lot of skin care products, so if you have sensitive skin you need to be extra vigilant about the type of cleanser you buy. You may be best suited to a milky cream cleanser or lotion.

How can I integrate a clarisonic brush into my skincare routine?

If done correctly and with the right cleanser, your clarisonic brush should fit in naturally with your skincare routine.

Wet the brush with water and also wet your face, and then apply about a quarter sized amount to the side of the brush rather than dead center, as you may expect. Don’t use a completely dry brush, as this can make the cleansing very rough and you won’t be able to work up a lather in the cleanser. Then, apply the cleanser to your face using the brush in a circular method and cleanse all over, without pressing too hard. Make sure you target all the main areas of the face, from the forehead, to the nose and chin, and do this for roughly twenty seconds each. Then target the cheeks for ten seconds each. There is a T timer designed to ensure that you take the correct amount of time.

After this, continue your skincare routine as normal, ensuring that you moisturize with the right moisturizer and so on.

Does clarisonic work for wrinkles?

A clarisonic brush would be great for older skin, paired with the right anti-aging cleanser. You’ll notice wrinkles and fine lines a lot more when the skin isn’t totally clean so the clarisonic with a good cleanser will work together to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
